Microblading Aftercare & Safety Tips
So, you finally did it. You splurged and took the plunge to get your eyebrows microbladed. Now you want to make sure that they remain as nice as possible for as long as possible. But how do you care for your newly upgraded brows and make sure that you don’t have any unfortunate side effects from the procedure. Well here are some tips to care for your new dream brows.
First of all, immediate aftercare of your newly microbladed brows is incredibly important and not to be overstated. What you have just received is a kind of semi-permanent tattoo which means someone was digging in your skin with a needle, albeit not very deeply, but the effect is the same. Essentially you are left with some very tiny and unobtrusive wounds that need to heal. So, keeping them clean is your top priority. You will want to lightly wash your brows morning an evening for approximately the first ten days with an antibacterial soap to ensure to keep any unpleasant bacteria out.
Additionally, keeping clean means that you should not be putting anything other than a mild soap on your brows. If you are using makeup, cleansers, lotions, or anything similar, keep it away from your brows. If you can avoid using it altogether that would be an even better option but if you insist, make sure to wash off any product that gets on the brows as quickly as possible. Other than your quick daily washes, you want to keep your brows dry during that initial healing period, so avoid activities that cause you to sweat. Your brows might scab a little a day or two after you have the procedure done. This is perfectly natural, and you need only remember not to scratch or pick at any scabs that form. Not only will picking increase your risk of infection, it might cause you to lose some of the color deposited in your brows. Basically, for the first week to ten days, keep your hands away from your brows!
Once your brows are fully healed, however, you’re pretty much in the clear. Your perfectly designed brows should last anywhere from one to three years, depending on your skin type and age. One thing to watch out for in the interim is exfoliators. Exfoliating your brows with any kind of frequency can cause them to fade quicker and also can affect their coloring, leaving them looking unnatural. Most other products are safe for your healed brows but if you have any questions about something that you regularly use, make sure to talk to your brow artist about what they recommend for your skin care routine.
Since microblading is only semi-permanent, there will come a time when you feel that you need to get your brows touched up. Artists have several different ways to revive your look once it starts to fade. Often around the one year mark, clients will find the microblading effect is still visible but definitely faded and at this point most artist recommend coming in for a color boost appointment. This is where your artist will simply go over the lines that already exist and deposit some fresh color, reviving a dull look. The longer you wait the more work will have to be done to get your brows looking fresh again, up to and including fully redoing the brows if you wait until all the color is gone. Try to find a brow artist that you trust and want to work with long term when you go to your initial appointment because the maintenance is not optional if you want to have perfect brows for the long haul.
