Eyelash Extensions- Facts and Myths
Hello all my beauties, it is me, Miss Madi! I am here to talk some lash-lash baby. I see you over there, yes you, admiring those lashes, completely in awe. And all you can think who.. what.. where.. when.. why.. how.. Right? Don’t you worry that’s what I’m here for. Within this blog, I’ll be hearing all of your unanswered questions and concerns coming from a lash artist herself. Don’t stop reading now, It’s just about to get good.
What are those long, bold, black things hanging from your eyelids?
Eyelash extensions have been around in the beauty industry since 2006 and if you don’t have any idea what I’m talking about then I’m very sorry, I’m about to blow your mind. So, let us pretend that you’re looking at my face, and I have extensions on my lids. No, they aren’t my real lashes, no they’re not a strip of fake lashes, yes I paid for them and yes I love them. No, I will not be getting rid of them anytime soon. Lashes are made with a synthetic material called Polybutylene Terephthalate and because I don’t even know how to say that let’s just call it PBT. This is a thermoplastic semi-crystalline polymer, or a type of polyester that is molded and heated to the shape of a, can you guess? You got it a lash! I am going to say this as nice as possible, if someone ever tells you that they are using REAL mink, cashmere, or silk, sorry they’re lying right to you. I don’t know about you but I don’t think I’d want any type of animal fur that close to my face.
Eyelash Extension Application
Now that I’m done boring you with the scientific talk, let’s get into the fun stuff. The lashing process can take roughly two hours, depending on how experienced, or how quick your fingers can move. During the process you have gel pads on top of your bottom lashes and your eyes are closed the whole time. Being calm, patient, and relaxed is key for the client. The artist uses tweezer in both hands to isolate your lashes and the other to pick up one single lash, dip it into adhesive, and place on your natural lash. After a few hours, voila! They’re done you look beautiful, you feel great about yourself and your life is good.
“I heard that’s bad for your natural lashes”
This is one of the biggest issues I always come across in the beauty industry. Being certified in lash extensions or even having your Cosmetology license means that you have to go through a certain amount of education to become certified, just like any other occupation. Education is key. To go deeper, you have to know what you’re talking about before you talk, yanno? So, I’m going to say this loud just for the people in the back. Lash extensions DO NOT ruin your natural lashes!!!!! But, if you pick off your extensions that in fact will ruin your natural lash. Take this for example, your lashes shed daily, but because they’re so small you barely even notice that they shed. But, when there is a black, long and thicker extension placed on your lashes and they sheds, you will notice. Makes sense right? As long as you follow the instructions your lash artist gives you, you’re aye okay.
You like my lashes? Gee thanks! Just bought em!
As females (and some men) we are always looking for ways to cut down our morning routine, and make us feel more beautiful, happy, and confident. With that comes a price tag, and as we know nothing in the world is free. Your typical lash artist will charge $50-$100 per hour. And as your lashes shed, you will need a fill typically every 2-4 weeks. Which may seem like a little much, but we work hard for our money and it’s always great to spoil yourself. And if this is enabling you to have more of that “self love” then I’d say this is priceless!
